Smugglers’ Notch Brings Snowboarding to Kids in the City

Years ago, Smugglers’ Notch Resort and Burton Riglet snowboarding teamed up to try the first, snow-free Riglet Park event in Central Park, NYC. While the crew faced many challenges, the event was a success. Thanks to what we’ve learned, Riglet Park events now take place all over the world in major cities, malls and schools. The Smugglers’ Notch Riglet event in NYC has expanded through experimentation and play. Incorporating new features, props, and even squirt “guns,” kids have never had so much fun learning to snowboard in the summertime.

Riglet Summer Reading Series

As the second installment in our Riglet Summer Reading Series, we caught up with Adam B. Ford, the author of  Molly Rides, Illustrated by Brian Berley and published by H. Bar Press. Molly Rides is the story of a girl named Molly and her experience with snowboarding. This book is suited for reading ages 5-10 years.

Sustainability and Snowboarding

At Burton we feel a responsibility for the environment in which we work and play. With our sustainable approach to how we dream, build, and distribute our products, we hope to reduce our footprint, and help families enjoy snowboarding for many winters to come. Take a look at some of the sustainability steps we’ve taken.

Riglet Summer Reading Series

Throughout this summer as part of our Burton Riglet Summer Reading Series, we’ll be highlighting a few children’s books that feature snowboarding as their theme. We were lucky enough to get an interview with the author of our first featured book Earl’s Big Adventure in Japan. Hanna Haidar has written two children’s books published through Old Silver Press and illustrated by Kimberly Newton. He also happens to work here at Burton Snowboards. Earl’s Big Adventure books are great for (read to me) ages 3 to 6 years.

Burton Riglet Kid’s Art

We love seeing kids enjoying Burton Riglet Snowboarding. We also love seeing the art they create inspired by their snowboarding experiences! Does your child like to draw? Do they enjoy coloring in our Burton Riglet downloads? Did they draw their own snowboard graphic? Send us a copy of your child’s snowboard inspired art or coloring to and it could be featured on our blog!

How To Use a Burton Riglet Reel

In 2010 Burton released the Burton Riglet Reel and it changed the game for kids snowboarding. By creating a tool that allows parents to tow kids around on a snowboard, children as young as two and three are finding success with snowboarding. Designed to attach to the nose of your child’s snowboard, the Riglet Reel uses a retractable cord with ergonomic handle for towing.

Kids Snowboarding Layering Tips

Nothing can cut short the fun of a kids snowboarding experience like being too cold, too hot or just plain sweaty. Here are some layering tips to outfit your child for success so they can enjoy snowboarding at any time of year.
